What is ACT?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (pronounced as the word ‘act’) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach to developing greater psychological flexibility in order to live a richer, fuller and more meaningful life.

It is a model based on workability that espouses the notion that all of us experience thoughts and feelings that can be very unhelpful and at times; impacting our pursuit of a meaningful life. Through ACT, we learn how to manage these difficulties so they have less impact on us; becoming more in touch with our values – our true self.

ACT is a proactive therapy that goes beyond identifying our values, by assisting us to take action (hence the term ‘ACT’) aligned with our values. Mindfulness is taught as a key component of living a more vital and meaningful life.
